Welcome to Capitol Heights Presbyterian Church.
Everyone is welcome!
The story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection has descent and ascent associated: ‘He descended into hell’ and ‘ascended into heaven’. These can be understood has holding the same meaning, while holding differentiation in meaning. The descent of Jesus understands that the crucified who is raised has come to be intimate with the hells of history and those which in whatever ways persist into eternity. Jesus is with all who suffer such, so that they even in the place of hell can find themselves befriended, beloved, and uplifted. The ascent of Jesus is the ascent of the One Who has descended, thus it does not hold meaning for a privileged, accomplished, exalted history only, but transforms all such history into the truth meant to be served, that every gift is a gift given, not possessed, and every privilege is an opportunity towards inclusion, friendship and enablement. The ascent of Jesus into authority raises our values, our expectations, and our passions into enduring love of God’s creation.
