Welcome to Capitol Heights Presbyterian Church

Everyone is welcome! (honest!)

“‘Eternal life’ does not speak of immortality or a life in heaven, but is a metaphor for living now in the unending presence of God.”  Gail R. O’Day

O’Day writes this in reference to John 6:27, “Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life . . .”  O’Day’s commentary shows that Jesus’ speaking of this food, or ‘bread of life’ as drawn out in the text, is teaching about life orientation, life enablement and meaning that is life serving, life enhancing, life making as the very being of God.  In following Jesus we are lifted into a life pattern that does not do harm, does not stoop to violent retaliation, does not exploit, but becomes a living that expands living, ever-living as God is life eternal.  May we seek to understand our life patterns, our culture and society, a way of being part of creation in terms like this critique provides, in terms that serve life rather than narrow ends of self-interest, or momentary enrichment that costs others dearly.

Solar Panels have been placed on the flat roof of our building.  For the next twenty years we will lease the roof space to Renewable Energy Ventures for $1./year. Then at the end of that time we will be able to purchase the array for $1. giving free electricity for the next thirty years.  The installation is free.  About 75% of the electricity used in worship and mission will come no longer from coal but from the sun!  See pics of the assemblage here!

Up On the Roof!
